During the last excavation campaign of 2024 a human skeleton was found, perfectly preserved but laid out in an unusual way: supine, with the left leg crossed under the right. This position is not typical of an orderly deposition and therefore points to an anomalous burial, as is also shown by the absence of any remains of a wooden coffin or of any object attributable to grave goods. He may have been buried in haste, without a real ceremony.
Anthropological analysis reveals a young man, between 19 and 34 years old, who lived in the heart of the Middle Ages, most probably between AD 1037 and 1179, belonging to a low social class — perhaps a manual worker, caught up in the toil of the fields or in the rhythms of an industrial environment of the time. His diet, poor in meat but rich in cereals and vegetables, reflects the reality of a society in which survival was tied to the land.
Today his discovery reminds us that every individual, even the humblest, has a story to tell, and that every burial is a fragment of a past that still speaks to us.
