Church of the Annunziata

Tripi

Between the hamlet of Casale and the centre of Tripi, along the ancient path leading to the town, stands the ruined Church of the Annunziata, next to which the remains of the 19th-century cemetery are clearly visible.

The church features a single-order Renaissance façade, rather slender in form, reinforced on the left by a robust corner buttress designed to counter the thrust towards the valley. The elegant rectangular stone portal, topped by a rectangular window, likely dates to the 18th century, as suggested by the graceful decorative volutes.

However, inside, the fallen plaster reveals earlier details, such as an arched window with a small oculus above, indicative of a simpler, more ancient design. A small bell-gable (campanile a vela) is situated at the top of the façade.

The interior consists of a single nave with side altars; a triumphal arch leads into a square chancel covered by a dome. With the exception of a few reworked decorative elements, the overall structure clearly dates to the late 16th century.
