The Mother Church of San Vincenzo Martire
Salita Duomo, Tripi
The church is dedicated to Saint Vincenzo martyr of Spain, and the patron saint of Tripi, whose feast day is on January 22nd, but according to ancient tradition, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of September.
The partial reconstruction of the building following the great earthquake of 1908 is undisputed: profound changes marked the ancient building, starting with the placement of the exterior sandstone columns, replaced by more recent ones in concrete and grit.
Evidence of the ancient structure is the attached bell tower that has preserved the original style.
The interior is divided into three naves that house, among the most valuable works, the main altar in a wooden structure, the wooden pulpit of ancient craftsmanship, and the altar of the Most Holy in polychrome marble from the Gagini school.
Noteworthy is the reconstruction of the Lourdes grotto and the shrines dedicated to the Madonna: one featuring the Black Madonna of Tindari and the other depicting a wooden Madonna, also black, with a child adorned with an eighteenth-century mantle from the silversmiths of Messina.
